Ironstone Gully is located about half way between Capel and Donnybrook on Goodwood Rd.
The location was reserved for recreation way back in 1903 and it has remained a popular picnic area ever since.
The falls are not what you might call spectacular but are best seen near the end of winter when there have been good rains. This coincides
with wildflower season which makes it a great time to visit the area.
A tributary of the Capel River crosses a red rock formation before tumbling down over the rim of a ledge. The red rock contains iron (as the name suggested)
at a concentration of about 38%.
There was an excellent area near the falls used by motorhomers and caravanners for overnight stops but sadly the local shire has seen fit to close it down.
