Formerly known as Canning National Park, the name was changed to honour an elder of the Beeliar people.

Midgegoroo led a resistance movement against European settlement and was executed by settlers in 1833.

The 2492 ha park encompasses Canning Dam and mountain biking is one of the most popular activities in the park.

Picnic and toilet facilities are available at Canning Dam and are provided by the Water Corporation.
