There are several different type of pages on this website and this page is here to help you learn about them and find out the different features of each.

TOWN PAGES

Town pages are (as the name suggests) about the different towns in Western Australia.

Town pages are possibly the most feature packed pages but not all of them will contain every feature available.

Town Page Common Header

Common Header

When you enter a town page you will see a header (the same as the header on most pages on this website).

The first feature is a scrolling massage bar. This is where we place information we would like you to know about.

Home Page Link

Under the scrolling message bar come the following options:

The Home Page link will take you back to our main start page for the website. Anywhere you see this button, it wil operate in the same manner.

Subscribe Link Button

The Subscribe button will enable you to subscribe to our irregular newsletter. The newsletter was meant to be a monthly publication but with all the other work that needs to be done, the newsletter comes out when we can find time. If you subscribe, don't hold you breath waiting for the latest edition as it could still be some weeks away.

Donate Button

One of the ways we try to raise money for this website is to ask for donations. We try not to bug you with pop-up screens and other annoying methods, but if you like our website and would like to help us do more with it, a small donation (via PayPal) would be sincerely apprecaited.

Email Button

If you want to contact us for any reasons, just click on the Email Button to start up your normal email screen. If you haven't selected an email service, you will be asked to select from one that is available on your computer.

Search Button

The Search Box will allow you to search for any subject that may be included on this website. You simply type in what you want to find and click the search button and a screen will appear with evey page on our site that has some reference to what you are searching for. There is an Advanced Search option available from out Home Page.

Next comes a picture showing part of the town. The picture may be static or it may have a short scrolling slide show.

Then there is the name of the town, a HEMA map reference (these are now being phased out), a GPS reference for the town, a 'Back to last Page' button that will take you back to the last page you were viewing on this website if you navigated to the town page internally.

A scrolling bar of text will include links to nearby towns.

Next comes a link to our accommodation page. We were once associated with Booking.com but have doiscontinued this due to a total lack of any success with the system.

Links to other sites

The last part of the page heading block includes links to some of our other pages including YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest etc.

Advert Link

The next block is an advert, yes we have to have these on our site.

Advertising is the most important source of income for this website. We use internal advertising to promote our own books, paid direct advertising for West Australian companies that want to advertise on our website and Google Adsense that advertises based on a pay per click system. If you click on a Google ad that interests you, we get paid a few cents. It isn't much but it all helps.

Weather Forecast

Section three shows you the weather forecast for the town or area you are looking at.

Town Page Side Bar

The Town Page side bar (left hand side) contains information on Statistics, Services, Caravan parks, Hotels, Motels and B and Bs. The listing of accommodation may not be exhaustive and any business that is not currently listed should contact us with their details as inclusion in this section is free.

If there are links to more information, then text in this section will be underlined. If any blue dots appear, these will take you to the website of specific businesses but links cannot be constantly checked and some may give 'Page Not Found' errors. As a result, these links are gradually being removed.

There may also be a list of campsites in the local area but at present this only appears on Albany and Augusta Town Pages.

Mingor Link

Near the bottom of the Side Bar on Town Pages you will find a link to a calendar of events page.

This will display as many local government websites as we can find that include a calendar of local events.

Unfortunately, local government websites are notorious for moving page links with no notification so it is likely that many links on the events page will be broken.

We do check from time to time but it is impossible to keep up with changes on other websites with our limited resources.

The last button on the Side Bar, links to mingor.net

This we regard as a 'sister website' as it includes all sorts of fantastic photographs and information on towns in W.A.

The site focuses heavily on individual buildings in various towns and gives as much information as possible about them.

Town Page Main Section

The man part of each Town Page contains a tabbed section with a general description, history, tall tales and true, map, videos, Other information and photos gallery where there are enough photos of the town. Simply click on the tab you are interested in to view that section.

The video tab may have no videos available or there may be several. Some of the videos we link to we did not shoot ourselves and these will always give information on the source and a link to the YouTube channel they originate from.

Text links on town pages may take you to another page of information on this website, information on an external website or they may pop up a picture of the item the link refers to.

Town Page Photos Tab

If a town page has sufficient photos available, then clicking on the photos tab will display the available shots in thumbnail groups of 10. Where there are more than 10 photos available to display, there will be pages listed underneath the thumbnails.

Clicking on a thumbnail image will display the full sized photo. Clicking on the photo again will close it.

Time Line Button

Time Line Pop-up

Some Town pages will include a time line button that will open a pop-up window that gives a brief time line of the area's history.

This has only been implemented on some pages.

Snippet Pages

Snippet pages are small pop-up pages that contain extra information about an area or attraction. They are accessed from normal text links across the website but most often appear in Town Pages.

Pages of Further Interest

This section appears on many pages and is supposed to help you find pages similar in nature to the one you are currently viewing. This is run by Google and while useful and sometimes entertaining, it will sometimes offer up weird choices.

We did start to develop a similar system to this ourselves but in the end, it was just too much work. You can see how it works on the Albany page as this was the only page it was implemented on.

Page End bar

On most pages in this website you will see an orange coloured bar that says 'Move your cursor here to see our other websites.' As you move your cursor over the bar, a section will pop up showing you the other websites that have have online. Feel free to explore them but bear in mind that they are only minor interest sites for us and don't get anywhere near the attention that this site gets.

ATTRACTION AND LOCATIN PAGES

These pages cover all sorts of topics that are outside the scope of Town Pages. They may be about an interesting location, about flora and fauna, about Aussie Slang, you name it, these pages cover it. Some have tabs similar to the Town Pages where you can click to find out more but most are just straight forward information pages.

The header section of these pages operates in the same way as the Town Pages so there is no need to explain all that again.

Place or Subject Page

If these pages include information on a campsite or day use area then they may have a series of icons showing things like tents, caravans, toilets etc. If you hover your cursor over each of these icons then the system will supply more information on each one.

Scrolling down the Place Page

As you scroll down the Place Page you will find the section that contains the bulk of information.

This is similar to the Description section on a Town Page and may contain some of the same options.

Video section

If a video clip is available for the page you are viewing, then it will generally be included at the end of, or toward the end of the text section of the page. It really helps us out if you subscribe to our YouTube channel and there will be a link beneath each video to help you do that.

Map on Place Page

If the page is about a place in W.A. then there will be a map included that indicates where it is located.

The mapping section is produced by Google.

There may also be a small table that indicates the best time of year to visit the place you are viewing.

A red box indicates a bad month to visit and a green box indicates a good one.

If the site is a National Park then there will also be a link to the National Park website for more information.

BIOGRAPHY PAGES

Biography Pages

Biography pages are different to most other pages in that they are a main page but they are designed to pop-up over the top of other pages.

This only happens if you get to a Biography Page from one of our internal links. If you come in from a search engine then they just load and pressing the 'Close this window' button does not operate.

Biography Page Detail

Biography Pages are about people who were in some way influential in Western Australia's history.

Biography Page Chronology

In order to make searching for facts easier for students, there is a chronology page at the bottom of most Biography pages that details the major events in people's lives.

below that there are also links to other biography pages so that you can find out more information from other sources.

BLOG PAGES

Blog Pages

Blog Pages are detailed accounts of the research journeys we undertake to collect information and pictures for this website.

We include this information so that we can pass on information about the areas we travel through that may be of some use to others who intent to travel through the same areas.

The menu section at the top of each Blog Page (where the arrow is pointing) is scrollable, so you can scroll down to find the latest trips.

There are also a few pages on overseas trips. These have nothing to do with the theme of this website but some people travelling overseas might find something useful in them.

CAMPSITE REVIEW PAGES

Campsite Review Pages

Campsite Reviews happen when we visit a new campsite or caravan park BUT you should always remember that this can be a bit out-of date as we are only infrequently in some areas of the state.

Hopefully even the out of date reviews will help you to find out useful information about a site but please remember that fees and facilities may change since the last time we visited.

FEATURE PAGES

Feature Pages

Feature Pages are usually about a specific attraction that we have visited. They include information we have gathered about the attraction plus a link to the official website and sometime a link to a picture galley about the attraction.

Picture Gallery Pages

Picture Galleries are used to display large numbers of photographs about a certain topic. The initial screen shows a series of thumbnails that you can click on to view the full sized image.

To dismiss a full sized image simply click on it and it will dispensary. Galleries may also include a Pinterest button to help you save any pictures you like to your Pinterest page.

HOME PAGE

Home Page

The Home Page is meant to be the place where everyone starts their journey through this website. Of course the internet doesn't work that way and visitors can start their exploration anywhere they find a subject that interests them.

If you want to see the website the way it was designed to be seen, then heading to the Home Page will get you started.

SUBJECT PAGES

Subject Pages

Subject pages are a way (besides searching) that you can quickly find pages on a topic you are interested in.

If it starts with an 'A' just click the 'A' on the Home Page or on the Main Index on any Subject Page.

The green left and right arrows on Subject Pages will take you to the previous / next letter in the alphabet. The little flashing green house will take you to the Home Page.

SITEMAP PAGE

The Sitemap Page should contain links to every other page on this website. That is the theory anyway.

It is a quick way for you to browse through all the information we have on here.

RANDOM TOUR PAGE

Random Tour Page

If you are bored and want to explore this site at random then just visit the Random Tour Page.

Clicking on the Random Tour icon will pick a page on this site at random and show it to you. If the subject doesn't interest you then head back and click again to try another page.

It probably won't be long before you find something to keep you entertained for a while.

One thing to remember on this website is, if it is underlined, then it is a link and clicking on it will show you something new.
