WA QUARANTINE SUMMARY - TRAVELLERS
It is
advisable to plan for supplies of fresh fruit and vegetables to run out just
before crossing into WA and then re stocking on arrival.
WA checkpoints operate on the Victoria Hwy at the WA-NT border (24hrs),
the Eyre Hwy at the WA-SA border (24hrs) and other border roads using a mobile
checkpoint vehicle on a random basis.
Requirements for some common imports, including
pets are listed below.
ENTERING WA
Fresh fruit and vegetables
Most are restricted entry into Western Australia because of various pests and
diseases and without proper pre-shipment treatment/certification, will be
seized at checkpoints. Private
travellers would rarely go to the trouble and expense to obtain certificates.
A few common types are permitted as outlined in the table below:
Other Common Import Details
· All used agricultural
bags/sacks/boxes/containers etc. are prohibited entry.
This includes potato sacks, wheat/seed bags, chaff bags, fruit and
vegetable cartons/styrofoam boxes etc.
· Dehydrated (dried) fruit and vegetables
commercially produced and packaged are subject to inspection on arrival in
Western Australia for insect infestation.
Home dried products are usually seized.
· Cooked and tinned food is permitted.
· Dairy and meat products are permitted.
·
Frozen raw (whole) food is permitted except for apple, grape,
stone-fruit, paw paw, blueberry, whole onion and
unpeeled potato. Mango must have
no skin or seed – only frozen flesh.
Peas/corn is ok.
· Other processed food such as biscuits, fruit
cake, dried packet foods (including polished rice) and fruit juice/cordial are
permitted.
· Honey is not permitted unless pre-entry
treated under quarantine supervision and certificates issued - private
travellers would rarely go to this trouble and expense.
· Dogs and cats are permitted entry.
· Pets such as Budgerigars,
Weeros (Cockatiels), Rabbits and Guinea Pigs are
permitted entry, however, cages need to be free from fruit, straw and
accompanying seed/feed.
Other animal pets may require a permit and so will be
directed to the nearest CALM Wildlife Officer for identification and permit
issue. To check permit

Plants, seeds and cut flowers
are restricted with most needing pre-entry treatment & certificates.
·
Nuts are permitted except raw
walnuts in the shell. Walnut meat
is ok.
THE KIMBERLEY AREA – From other areas within WA
·
Fresh fruit should not be taken into the Ord River
Irrigation Area around Kununurra.
·
Palm material is restricted movement from the Broome
area.
