The bridge spans the Blackwood River 21 Km north east of Augusta. A camping area is available and a fee is payable.
There are BBQs, toilets, outside shower, water, wood, bins and tables. The entrance is on the north east bank of the river. The campsite is suitable for all types of vehicles including large mobile homes. In the peak season, the campsite can become crowded and noisy, but out of tourist season it is often a quiet and relaxing place to stay.
Rumour has it that good sized bream can be caught in the river but they are few and far between.
The original bridge was built in 1897 by John Wishart and M.C. Davies, but a new bridge replaced it in 1968. In 1982 during a major flood, the old bridge collapsed and was washed away. All that remains today are the stumps at each end.
The river was named after Capt. Henry Blackwood who served on HMS Warspite at the battle of Trafalgar. The river starts near Boyup Brook and the total length is close to 400 kilometres ending at Augusta.
On our last visit to this campsite it was with great disappointment we saw the results of what group of stupid vandals had done to the nearby CWA hall. Considering what these morons did to the hall it is a wonder that the local community hasn't had the campground closed down.
